Microneedling Q&A

Who can benefit from microneedling?

Microneedling can benefit you if you want your skin to look younger, smoother, and more uniform. This innovative technique triggers your body’s natural healing response, stimulating the production of proteins like collagen and elastin, the building blocks of the structures that support your skin.

While it has a major anti-aging benefit, microneedling does more than just revitalize your skin. It also reduces the appearance of:

  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Scars
  • Stretch marks

Since microneedling uses your body’s own regenerative abilities, instead of heat like laser treatments, people with any skin tone can benefit from the procedure without risk of cellular damage or skin discoloration.

What happens during a microneedling procedure?

When you see Dr. Guerrero for a microneedling procedure, he gives you a numbing cream to apply to your face that helps to eliminate any discomfort you may experience. In some cases, he may give you the cream to use at home before you come to the appointment.

Once the numbing cream starts to work, Dr. Guerrero uses a device with small, sterile needles. These needles puncture your skin, creating minor abrasions, thus spurring the production of collagen and elastin as your skin starts to heal.

What can you expect after a microneedling treatment?

After your microneedling treatment, your skin may look red for a few days and it may appear like you have a sunburn. To keep your skin as healthy as possible, protect it from the sun by wearing wide brim hats, sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more, and avoiding midday ultraviolet rays.

Due to the micro-wounds on your skin, Dr. Guerrero may ask that you withhold from your normal skincare routine, and instead, opt to use products that soothe, calm, and protect. He discusses his specific recommendations with you after your treatment.

Within about 48 hours, your skin heals and you can begin to notice the initial effects of your microneedling treatment. Depending on your needs, Dr. Guerrero may recommend multiple treatments, each administered every four to six weeks. This keeps your skin looking younger and smoother.

If you’re struggling to reach your anti-aging goals with over-the-counter products and treatments, it’s time to find the right solution for your skin. Call Eagle Dermatology today or schedule an appointment online to book your initial consultation with Dr. Guerrero.
